On 12th October 2024, 12 graduates proudly received their certificates from the Tabita Leadership Program, facilitated by Tabita Initiative Africa. This second cohort, comprised of dedicated female leaders from Uganda, Ghana, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the United States, marked the conclusion of over seven weeks of intense training and additional sessions with esteemed visiting facilitators.
Among the notable facilitators were Grace Munyirwa, Managing Director of Vine Pharmaceuticals; Eric Omondi, Executive Director of Ensonga Menstrual Care—who has committed to becoming an in-house coach; and Coach Gabriel Nyamu, CEO of Inquest Research and Consulting and Purpose Verse Organizations. These industry leaders supplemented the work of in-house coaches, including Dorcus Magoba, HR Specialist and Founder of Tabita Initiative Africa; Babra, an HR Specialist and Certified Coach; and Niccqueta Vermal, a Leadership and Wellness Coach. Together, they provided invaluable insights, equipping participants with essential skills to thrive in their careers.
Of the 21 initial participants, the 12 graduates stood out by completing all assignments, actively implementing their learning, and consistently attending sessions. As one participant remarked, “This program is not a walk in the park,” highlighting the rigorous nature of the training.
The comprehensive curriculum covered key topics, including:
- Leading oneself
- Building a leadership mindset and personal brand
- Strategic planning and vision setting
- Executive communication and influence
- Leading teams (team dynamics, collaboration, motivation, and managing diversity)
- Career advancement strategies and leadership in action
Cynthia Cofie, a leader at Prudential Life Insurance Ghana, expressed her enthusiasm for the program: “I have significantly improved my leadership, time management, and communication skills. People at my workplace have noticed the transformation in how I carry myself, which has led to my promotion to a team leader position before the year ends.”
Babra Irakiza, who has since become a mentor and coach, shared her experience as well: “I’ve gained confidence and clarity about my capabilities.” She added that her role as a facilitator at Tabita Initiative Africa has been instrumental in her development. Babra also suggested that future cohorts consider organizing physical sessions in various countries to enhance accessibility and connection.
The Tabita Leadership Program aims to address the gender leadership gap in organizations by empowering female leaders. As part of its vision, Tabita Initiative Africa is building a Leadership Institute and running both physical and online leadership programs tailored for female professionals to equip them with vital leadership skills.
Looking ahead, graduates will join the Alumni community, ensuring that their learning and growth continue long after the program’s completion. As Director Grace Munyirwa said, “Empowered women empower the world,” reinforcing the initiative’s commitment to fostering leadership among women.
