Understanding Key Challenges Surrounding Women’s Leadership in Uganda

by SHARP CREATIVES / Friday, 28 February 2025 / Published in Reports

Women’s leadership remains a critical issue in Uganda, with persistent barriers such as gender bias, lack of mentorship, and limited access to leadership development programs. Despite progress, mid-career women continue to face structural and societal obstacles that hinder their advancement into senior leadership roles.

The Women in Leadership Development Program Survey Report provides key insights into these challenges, revealing that a significant portion of organizations still have low female representation in leadership. It highlights major hurdles such as confidence and self-promotion challenges, work-life balance struggles, and the impact of societal norms that limit women’s leadership opportunities.

Encouragingly, the report also sheds light on practical solutions, including skill development workshops, executive coaching, mentorship, and sponsorship programs. These interventions are crucial in building women’s confidence and creating pathways for their leadership growth.

This research serves as a call to action for organizations, policymakers, and individuals to actively invest in inclusive leadership development programs. By breaking down these barriers and fostering an environment where women can thrive, we can pave the way for a more diverse and equitable leadership landscape in Uganda.
