Camusat Partners with Tabita to Launch Women in Leadership Program Across East Africa

by Dorcus Magoba / Wednesday, 16 July 2025 / Published in Uncategorized

At Tabita Initiative Africa, our mission is to multiply leadership potential in underrepresented spaces and this July, we witnessed a landmark moment. Together with Camusat International, we launched a regional Women in Leadership Development Program, bringing together female professionals from Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania to ignite a movement of empowered, capable, and strategic women leaders in the telecom and engineering sectors.

Camusat International is a global leader in telecom infrastructure services, headquartered in France and operational across Europe, Africa, the Indian Ocean, Latin America, the Middle East, and the Pacific. With over 40 years of experience and more than 2,200 direct employees, Camusat innovates to build, power, and optimize sustainable networks worldwide

Held in Kampala offices on 15th July, 2025, the launch marked the beginning of an intentional journey to raise women who lead with clarity, confidence, and impact.

“It was deeply inspiring to see an organisation so invested in empowering its women. This is what change looks like in motion.” – Dorcus Magoba, Founder & Team Leader, Tabita Initiative Africa

Telecom is one of the most demanding sectors, requiring 24/7 problem-solving, technical excellence, and agility. At the launch, Camusat leaders made it clear: women are not only present in this space they are excelling.

Mark Anthony Cresswell, Country Managing Director for Camusat Uganda, shared the remarkable progress made in recent years: “When I joined, we had only 12 women in the organization. Today, we have 36. That growth wasn’t accidental we’ve been intentional through internships, mentorship, and retention programs.”

Kennedy Muirungi, CFO, likened the telecom industry to the military in its intensity, praising the resilience and skill of women in the field:

“This isn’t for the faint-hearted. But our women are thriving because they are powerful.”

Fred Balikabya, Deputy MD, echoed the same sentiment, calling women “hardliners” who lead with courage, even under pressure.

The Women in Leadership Development Program, designed by Tabita Initiative and supported by Camusat’s ESG and HR teams, equips women leaders with:

  • Leadership mindset training
  • Strategic thinking and executive presence
  • Mentorship and peer learning
  • Personal growth tracks with real-world projects
  • Tools to break internal and societal limiting beliefs

The program also includes group leadership impact projects, peer teaching, and alumni follow-up, ensuring that the training creates sustainable change and future mentors. “We are not just building leaders. We are multiplying them.”  Dorcus Magoba

Women expressed a hunger for growth, but also the reality of navigating male-dominated spaces. This program directly answers that need with structure, support, and strategy.

Across the globe, women remain significantly underrepresented in top leadership positions. Only 10.4% of Fortune 500 CEOs are women, and just 23% of board seats are held by women. At the current pace of progress, full gender parity in leadership roles is not expected to be achieved until the year 2053. But programs like this accelerate that timeline and we’re proud to be a part of rewriting the future.

To the women who have stepped into this program:
You are not just participants. You are pioneers.
You are not statistics. You are stories of transformation.
You are not waiting to lead someday. You are leading now.

Stay tuned as we share their journeys, projects, and milestones in the months ahead.

This is just the beginning.
